Directive 2014/68/EU on Pressure Equipment
Directive 2014/68/EU (Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) of the European Parliament the Council of 29 May 1997 on the approximation of the laws of the Member States concerning pressure equipment), in Germany and Switzerland as "Pressure Equipment Directive" (PED) denotes sets, the requirements for pressure equipment on the market of pressure equipment within the European Economic area (EEA).
It is one of many European harmonization directives based on Article 95 of the EC Treaty concerning the free movement of goods. The Pressure Equipment Directive is, like all European directives, the Member States and they must therefore be directed by the individual Member States have transposed into national law.
In Germany this was done by the Equipment and Product Safety Act (GPSG) and the fact-based printing equipment regulation (14 GPSGV). To meet the minimum requirements, the manufacturer, a harmonized standard (eg, standard series EN 13445 for unfired pressure vessels, standard series EN 13480 for industrial piping, standard series EN 12952 for water tube boilers, standard series EN 12953 for shell boilers) apply and may then assume (presumption) that it meets the essential safety and health requirements.
It may, however, other specifications (eg, AD 2000 leaflets, CODAP 2000, BS 5500, ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code (ASME U-Stamp to apply), if he proves that he therefore also the fundamental safety and health requirements complied with. This is tested by a notified body.
