Devices in a particular category may be used only for certain areas such as Category 2 equipment only for zone 1, 2 (for gases or vapors) or for the zones 21, 22 (for dust).
Explosion Group
Gases and vapors are divided because of their special ignitability in three explosion groups (IIA, IIB and IIC). The danger increases from explosion group IIA to IIC. (The higher explosion group IIC includes for example the lower of the IIA IIB.)
temperature classes
To facilitate the planning of a plant for which the maximum surface temperature 6 temperature classes (T1 to T6) were determined. This temperature can be assigned to certain classes due to the corresponding ignition temperatures of combustible gases and vapors. For temperature classes following maximum allowable surface temperatures apply to the equipment:
Class | max. surface temperature |
T1 | 450 °C |
T2 | 300 °C |
T3 | 200 °C |
T4 | 135 °C |
T5 | 100 °C |
T6 | 85 °C |
Equipment, for example, a higher temperature class T6 (max. heating of the device at 85 ° C) colon cancer, are also suitable for the lower temperature classes T1 to T5.
